WILLIAM GEISLER

William Geisler is a Maine-based artist whose encaustic works are known for their striking complexity, depth, and visual tension. His pieces invite viewers to first experience the whole, then to explore the intricate layers and hidden details that emerge through closer observation. Working with encaustic, an ancient technique dating back to 100–300 AD, Geisler blends heated beeswax with pigments, paper, and found materials to create bold and unexpected compositions. His process often involves hand-cut paper strips dipped in wax, layered and manipulated through both additive and subtractive techniques that reveal the interplay between control and spontaneity. “I’m drawn to the abstract nature and depth that encaustic brings,” Geisler says. “It’s full of unpredictability and surprise — a constant adventure of discovery and rediscovery.”

Geisler is a graduate of Marycrest College. He lives and works in Gray, Maine.
