Robert Phillips’ glass experience began in his early 20’s as a production assistant in the United States and broadened abroad in Sweden. This education focused on the fundamental techniques of working the material through repetition and covered both hot shaping and cold grinding techniques.

This knowledge of the practical handling and working nature of glass has enabled an evolving personal style and vocabulary that can be seen throughout his sculptural endeavors.

Phillips’ work distinctly balances color with form and showcases the unique characteristics of glass, especially in regard to transparency and reflection. Through a combination of extensive hot shaping and 

sculptural cold working techniques, Phillips is able to illuminate these beautiful qualities of glass.

Robert Phillips works as a freelance glassblower while also designing and producing his own 

functional and unique sculptural artwork. His work is shown regularly in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe.
