Jennifer McCurdy is inspired by the fauna of the beach and island environment which surrounds her home and studio. The pieces she creates are directly related to the ocean side fractals in nature that she sees every day.   Her Motto, from Andre Gide is, “A perfect dwelling always finds an inhabitant” and can be applied to her body of work.  To create this work, Jennifer uses a translucent porcelain body due to its beautiful surface, and for its qualities of light and shadows.  The vessel is thrown on a wheel much like any other clay process, and allowed to harden to the feel of leather.  Patterns are then carved to add energy and counterpoint.  The work is then fired to cone 10, where the porcelain becomes non-porous and translucent and one of the hardest surfaces known to man.
